Puppy's first year: month by month guide

The first year of a puppy's life is full of rapid changes and important milestones. Each phase requires specific care to ensure healthy and balanced development.

0 to 2 months: neonatal phase

The puppy is completely dependent on the mother. Socialization with littermates is crucial for behavioral development. Should not be separated from the mother before 8 weeks.

2 to 4 months: vaccination and socialization

Start of the vaccination protocol (V8/V10, anti-rabies). Critical period of socialization — expose the puppy to different people, sounds and environments in a positive way. Begin basic training with positive reinforcement.

4 to 6 months: teething and growth

Exchange baby teeth for permanent teeth — offer appropriate chew toys. Accelerated growth requires specific quality food for puppies. Consider castration at this stage.

6 to 12 months: adolescence

Phase of testing limits and greater independence. Maintain consistency in training. Gradual transition to adult food according to veterinary guidance. Monthly consultations until completing the vaccination schedule.
